मणिपुर चक्र तंत्र और योग साधना की चक्र संकल्पना का तीसरा चक्र है। मणि का अर्थ है गहना और पुर का अर्थ है स्थान। इस चक्र का तन्त्रा नाभि के पीछे स्थित होता है। हमारी चिन्ताएं और दबी हुई भावनाएं हमारी नाभिक केन्द्र में बैठ जाती है और इस चक्र को घेर लेती हैं। हमारे मन में कुछ बातों या विचारों का बार-बार उठना ही चिन्ता है।
इस चक्र का प्रतिनिधी रंग पीला है। इसका प्रतिनिधि पशु मेढ़ा (मेष) है। इसका अनुरूप तत्त्व अग्नि है। इसका प्रतीक चिन्ह दस पंखुडियों वाला कमल है। यह मानव शरीर की सभी प्रक्रियाओं का नियंत्रण और पोषण करने वाले दस प्राणों (शक्तियों) का प्रतीक है।
इसका दूसरा प्रतीक नीचे की ओर शीर्ष बिन्दु वाला त्रिभुज है। यह ऊर्जा के फैलाव, उद्गम और विकास का द्योतक है। इस चक्र के देवता विष्णु और लक्ष्मी हैं। विष्णु उदीयमान मानव चेतना के प्रतीक हैं। लक्ष्मी भौतिक और आध्यात्मिक समृद्धि की प्रतीक हैं। इसका मंत्र है रम।
चिन्ता से हमारी ऊर्जा में कमी आने लगती है और यह हमें समग्र ज्ञान तथा परम सुख से दूर ले जाती है। चिन्ता से हमारे समय, विचारों एवं ऊर्जा की भारी बर्बादी होती है।
हमारी 99 प्रतिशत चिन्ताएं व्यर्थ की ही होती है और मात्रा 1 प्रतिशत चिन्ताएं ही हमारे लिये अच्छी होती हैं। पेट की कई समस्याओं, त्वचा के रोगों और दद्र का नाभिक केन्द्र से सीधा सम्बन्ध होता है। मोटापा चिन्ता और निराशा के कारण ही होता है।
साधक की कुंडलीनी के मणिपुर चक्र में पहुंचने पर वह स्वाधिष्ठान चक्र के निषेधात्मक पक्षों पर विजय पा लेता है। इसके साथ ही उसे स्पष्टता, आत्मविश्वास, आनन्द, आत्म भरोसा, ज्ञान, बुद्धि और सही निर्णय लेने की योग्यता जैसे बहुमूल्य मणियों सरीखे गुण प्राप्त होते हैं। यह चक्र स्फूर्ति का केन्द्र है। यह साधक का स्वास्थ्य सुदृढ़ और पुष्ट करने के लिए उसकी ऊर्जा नियंत्रित करता है। यह ब्रह्माण्ड से प्राण को अपनी ओर आकर्षित करता है।
यह चक्र अग्न्याशय और पाचक तंत्र की प्रक्रिया को विनियमित करता है। इस केन्द्र में अवरोध पाचन में खराबियां, परिसंचारी रोग, मधुमेह और रक्तचाप में उतार-चढ़ाव जैसी कई स्वास्थ्य समस्याओं का कारण बन सकता है।
